Remi Matthews played well in goal for the visitors but his error gifted Ezgjan Alioski the winning goal in the Championship clash at Elland Road.

For the third time this season and the seventh game in a row, Bolton Wanderers have suffered a one-goal defeat at the hands of Leeds United, who ran out 2-1 winners in Saturday’s Championship clash at Elland Road.

Bolton played Leeds in the Championship in December and were beaten 1-0, and the two also locked horns in the Carabao Cup in August, the outcome a 2-1 win for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, with the one-goal loss run going all the way back to January 2017 (11v11).

On Sunday, the hosts took the lead just after the quarter-hour mark when Tyler Roberts was fouled in the box by Pawel Olkowski for a penalty which Patrick Bamford successfully dispatched.

Phil Parkinson’s charges, battling against relegation, were soon on level terms, Mark Beevers forcing the ball home in the 22nd minute after David Wheater’s initial header from a corner was cleared off the line.

Leeds continued to push and Bamford was twice thwarted by Remi Matthews, but the ex-Norwich goalkeeper then misjudged Ezgjan Alioski’s cross to gift the hosts the lead once again, this time not relinquishing it.

Here is how some Bolton fans reacted on Twitter to the game, with some focus on Matthews’ error, though the messages were largely sympathetic:
