Bolton Wanderers strengthened their place in the second automatic League One promotion spot with victory at Oxford United on Tuesday night.

If their 4-2 victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Oxford United was not impressive enough, the result of Tuesday’s game has now helped set a new club record. Bolton have now scored four goals in three consecutive away league games for the first time in their history.
Four is the magic number for the Trotters at the moment. Their triumph at the Kassam Stadium has given them a four point cushion over third place Fleetwood Town, who they also scored four goals against in a promotion clash earlier this month . The Trotters have only tasted defeat once in their last 11 league outings.
They are on course for an immediate return to the Championship. Last season’s relegation condemned Bolton to playing their league football in England’s third tier for the first time since 1993.
Despite an inconsistent start to their campaign, Phil Parkinson’s men have always been widely tipped to finish in the top two places and with just eight games to play, they will be looking to widen the gap between themselves and the play-off places.

The club have not been fazed by the departure of influential forward Zach Clough to Nottingham Forest on January transfer deadline day. The deal was thought to be worth up to £3 million, according to the Nottingham Post.
Bolton sit six points adrift of table toppers Sheffield United, even though the league title is not out of the question, their supporters will be happy to take a runners-up spot in the league and secure that coveted promotion.
