An update on the future of Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori has been provided as Arsenal continue their efforts to sign the Italian.

During Euro 2024, Riccardo Calafiori certainly made an impact for Italy during the tournament in Germany but the Azzuri were eliminated in the round of 16 stage by Switzerland.

HITC reported that Arsenal had indeed struck an agreement on personal terms with Calafiori over the potential signing with just the fee remaining before the Italian will join Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal were frustrated in their attempts to sign Martin Zubimendi this summer and it appears the Gunners are focusing on a defensive addition first.

Bologna chairman Claudi Fenucci provides Calafiori update

Arsenal are keen on Calafiori as the Gunners believe they need another defensive option to add to the team with the Italian’s ability to play at left-back understood to be a bonus.

Bologna chairman Claudi Fenucci has now provided an update on the future of Calafiori as rumours grow that a deal is close to being struck.

When asked about an agreement with Arsenal over a deal, Fenucci simply replied: “No news.”

Fenucci was then asked if there was any remaining interest from Thiago Motta’s Juventus and he said: “Juventus? I haven’t heard from them.”

We had previously reported that Juventus were believed to be the favourites for the signing of the Italian defender but that has now changed with Arsenal in the picture.

Latest update on Calafiori to Arsenal

Sources have told HITC that, despite rumours to the contrary, no medical has been planned for the Italian defender as negotiations continue.

Lines of communication between the two sides remain open with Arteta very keen on signing the Italian defender and adding him to his options for the new season.

Sources have told HITC that OGC Nice defender Jean Clair-Todibo is closing in on a move to Juventus as a potential alternative to Calafiori.

West Ham actually had an offer accepted for the French defender but it appears a move to Turin is now on the cards.

Manchester United were blocked from signing Todibo from Nice due to a UEFA ruling and a move to Thiago Motta’s side is now close.
