Outcast Mario Balotelli may have finally found an escape route from Anfield with Bologna manager Roberto Donadoni hinting at a possible transfer.
Mario Balotelli may be about to wake up from his Liverpool nightmare with Bologna manager Roberto Donadoni admitting he is keen on bringing the striker back to Serie A.
Balotelli had been told by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp that he has no future at Anfield after returning from a dismal loan spell at AC Milan (below) this summer, but the 26-year-old is yet to find a club willing to give him another chance to rediscover the form that made him one of Europe’s most promising strikers.
Earlier this month, Besitkas chairman Fikret Orman said the Turkish Champions were unwilling to take a chance on the Italian due to his “troubled image” in quotes reported by the Daily Mail.
However, Balotelli may have finally found an escape route with Donadoni (below) suggesting he would be willing to bring the former Inter and Milan striker back to Serie A for a fourth spell provided that he proves his willingness to work for the cause.
“Of course I would be okay with Balotelli joining the club,” the former Italy manager told the media, reported by Sky Sports.
“All I’ll say is that such a move is still far-fetched but I don’t hide the fact that big names are coveted by everyone and Mario is one of those players.
“The key thing is that anyone who comes here has to have the correct attitude and work rate for our team. If they don’t, then we can’t afford to have him. But if the player is available and shows that willingness to work, then he is certainly welcome here.”
But even if Donadoni is keen he may have trouble convincing Bologna’s board after director of football Riccardo Bigon stated last week to La Gazzetta dello Sport that Balotelli didn’t feature in the club’s transfer plans.
Balotelli has scored just seven goals in the last two seasons and has not featured for his country since 2014.
