Bojan has yet to really make an impact since rejecting Celtic for Mainz in January.

In January, The Stoke Sentinel reported that Celtic had made a bid to land Stoke attacker Bojan Krkic on loan – but he snubbed Brendan Rodgers’ approach in favour of heading to Mainz.

Since then, Celtic have kept up their unbeaten league record and won the Scottish Premiership title, with Rodgers earning plaudits for the way in which the Bhoys have played this season.

However, over in Germany, Bojan can’t claim to be having quite so much success. The Spaniard has started just six games for Mainz, making only six appearances in total – and Mainz have won just once in the games in which he has played.

Tellingly, Bojan has yet to register a goal or an assist for Mainz since his move, and a switch that was supposed to put the former Barcelona wonderkid back on the radar of top clubs has so far been one of frustration.

A return to Stoke looks likely at the end of the season, but after starting just five Premier League games with the Potters earlier this term, a long-term future at the Britannia Stadium seems unlikely.

That could spark interest from Celtic again, given that Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague took to Twitter last summer to claim that the Bhoys wanted Bojan, before he snubbed a January move.

It seems clear that Celtic boss Rodgers is keen to add Bojan to his Bhoys squad, and despite his struggles in Germany, a third attempt to land the Spaniard may not be such a bad idea.

The 26-year-old was undoubted quality on the ball, but just needs to find a club and a manager that will allow him to play regularly, and Celtic could be that place, with Rodgers’ repeated attempts to land him a clear sign of his belief in Bojan’s quality.

Bojan could enjoy a renaissance akin to Scott Sinclair’s at Celtic, whilst combining the two would give Celtic another potent attacking option, playing in behind a striker like Moussa Dembele or a potential new signing.

With struggles in England and Germany, the former Barcelona youngster needs a home – and Celtic should be attempting to make it third time lucky in their pursuit of Bojan this summer.
