Travis Kelce’s future in the NFL has been the subject of growing speculation, and now a body language expert believes the Kansas City Chiefs star may have already made a major decision.
According to Darren Stanton, Kelce’s subtle gestures during recent interviews suggest that his retirement could be imminent.
Kelce, 35, has been one of the league’s most dominant tight ends for over a decade, but recent comments about his career and life after football have fueled questions about whether he plans to call it a day soon.
While the player himself has remained vague, Stanton believes his body language is telling a very different story.

Expert says Travis Kelce’s gestures suggest ‘imminent’ retirement
Speaking to OLBG, body language expert Darren Stanton said, “There are some really interesting shots of lip compression.
“What that means is when people do that immediately after making a statement or declaration, it means they have absolutely no confidence in what they’ve just said, or they’ve said too much.”
He added: “So it’s an unconscious gesture that people kind of make when they feel they’ve basically spilled the beans or said something they didn’t want to say, or they’ve gone down a road they didn’t want to go down.
“So I think his retirement is imminent. He’s trying to leave it up in the air and leave it open-ended, and make it sound vague like he hasn’t made a decision.”
Stanton’s interpretation points to Kelce’s growing internal conflict about continuing in the NFL. The lip compression gesture, according to him, indicates someone who is withholding information or trying to mask uncertainty.
Travis Kelce’s non-verbal cues reveal the truth
Fans have noticed that Kelce has spoken increasingly about his future, balancing his football career with media projects and his high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift.
“But my belief is that he has made a decision and I think he is probably going to announce his retirement, because when people make a statement about things there’s a fluency to it, there’s a congruency with body language and what we call statement analysis,” Stanton continued.
He concluded, stating: “So it’s the non-verbal vs the verbal. So with Kelce, his non-verbal gestures are not congruent with what he is saying.
“So basically, that lip compression or lip press is a really classic textbook red flag for basically unconsciously displaying the fact he has said too much. He didn’t want to announce what he said. So it’s almost a way of shutting himself up.”
Stanton’s assessment aligns with growing chatter around the NFL that the tight end could be preparing to step away after this season, ending a career that has seen him become one of the most productive and charismatic players in the game.
For now, Kelce continues to play down speculation. But if Stanton’s interpretation is accurate, the NFL may soon be preparing for one of its biggest stars to hang up his cleats.
