Jon Dadi Bodvarsson’s tenure at Wolverhampton Wanderers thus far has certainly been an interesting one.
Ever since Wolverhampton Wanderers brought in Icelandic forward Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, expectations were high given the reputation that the 24-year-old was arriving with. The early signs were good and fans were really starting to get behind their new striker, but as the months have gone on his impact hasn’t been so much in the capacity you’d expect.
Wolves’ fans celebrate their second goal
Since the start of the season the man who netted at Euro 2016 has scored just two goals and provided three assists in his 24 games for the club. Now whilst some may feel he’s more valuable winning the ball and slotting it through for others, it is a tad worrying that he has been unable to hit a consistent run of goals given the quality service he’s had around him at times.
What’s even more bizarre is that the fanbase have adopted the famous Icelandic clap celebration from the European Championships in the summer, with Jon Dadi often leading the way as fans rejoice in the team’s victory.
Derby County’s Cyrus Christie requires treatment after this challenge by Wolves’ Jon Dadi Bodvarsson
Now it goes without saying, this was not the intended effect of the forward when he was signed by the Championship club. He doesn’t exactly have a known tendency to find the back of the net but leading a chant for the supporters shouldn’t be what we’re talking about nearly six months into his tenure in England.
Whatever the case may be, if Wolves continue surging up the league Bodvarsson will be expected to chip in with a goal or two at the very least.
