Queens Park Rangers have some tough fixtures remaining as they seek to avoid slipping out of the Premier League.
Queens Park Rangers striker Bobby Zamora has told Get West London that he believes his side can beat Liverpool at the weekend.
The R’s currently sit four points adrift of safety and are in desperate need of points, but the fixture list has not been kind to them.
QPR take on Liverpool and Manchester City in their next two fixtures, but Zamora has not given up hope because of his side’s past showings against the top teams in the Premier League.
“I hope QPR fans get behind me and the rest of the lads for the remaining games, starting with Liverpool,” the experience forward said.
“People write off those games saying you can’t win, but I’ve played in games where we’ve beaten top sides.”
It is true that QPR have troubled some of the top teams recently – with City and Liverpool both having tough games at Loftus Road earlier in the season – but the London club’s away form is woeful.
Without the advantage of playing at home, it is hard to see where QPR will trouble either of the Champions League chasers, but Chris Ramsey’s side are under pressure to do just that.
If QPR do fail to collect a result in either game, they could be mathematically relegated by the time they get the chance to play again, and that would be disastrous for everyone at the club.
It would also leave Ramsey’s future firmly up in the air. At the moment the 53-year-old is under contract until the end of the season, and Zamora has backed the boss to be given the job on a longer-term basis.
“He’s done a good job,” he said. “He puts on some good sessions and we’ve been desperately unlucky in so many games. With a bit of luck, we would be a few points clear and everybody would be saying the job’s his for sure.”
