Premier League title chasers Liverpool are set to lose striker Bobby Adekanye, who is expected to sign for Serie A powerhouses Lazio.

Bobby Adekanye has confirmed that he has rejected a three-year deal with Liverpool and will now leave the Premier League giants at the end of the season, speaking to Voetbal Zone.

The Nigerian attacker has been part of The Reds’ youth team since 2015, after previous spells at Ajax and Barcelona, but has never managed to make the breakthrough into Jurgen Klopp’s senior side.

And with his contract set to expire in July, it seems that Adekanye is on borrowed time at Anfield. He has been heavily linked with a move to Serie A outfit Lazio, which would see him link up with former Liverpool pair Lucas Leiva and Luis Alberto in the Italian capital.

In quotes reported by Voetbal Zone, Adekanye explains that he has decided to reject Liverpool’s contract offer as he is frustrated by his lack of opportunities on Merseyside, particularly after being left out of the club’s pre-season tour of the USA in 2018.

“(Being left out) was disappointing and it has contributed to the fact that I do not want to renew my contract,” the 20-year-old said. ”If they promise such things and it doesn’t happen, I don’t know what will happen if I sign for three years.

”That confidence is no longer there, even though I still greatly respect the club. I expected that I would get a chance at Liverpool sooner. I don’t think I appeared in (Klopp’s) plans. If so, I have to look for something else. “

Calciomercato reported over the weekend that the Dutch U20 international had been offered a five-year deal with Lazio but Adekanye himself has played down speculation, saying that no deal has been agreed with Simone Inzaghi’s side.
