Writing in his programme notes, Angus Kinnear has singled out Pawel Cibicki when writing about Leeds’ financial mismanagement during their time in the Championship.
Leeds’ CEO was on a bit of a tear during his programme notes as he passionately argued against the idea of redistributing wealth from the Premier League back into the EFL.
Kinnear says that EFL sides wouldn’t benefit from having their finances boosted by handouts from the top-flight, claiming that many teams would blow it on poor signings, naming Cibicki as a Leeds example.
What’s been written about Cibicki?
Kinnear was writing about the idea of redistributing wealth throughout the football pyramid.
“Teams further down the pyramid do not need their means artificially inflated, they need to live within them. As a recently promoted team we were asked by the review what we would have done with increased funds if Premier League teams had been forced to financially contribute to our promotion campaign and the answer (although more eloquently expressed) was, fundamentally, that we would have still blown it on Pawel Cibicki,” Kinnear wrote.

Harsh
Say what you will about Cibicki and his time at Leeds, but it feels a bit harsh to single him out here.
Yes, he played just seven league games for the club after arriving for £1.5m, but isn’t it a little bit unnecessary to single him out?
Leeds made their fair share of poor signings in the Championship, Ouasim Bouy, Jay-Roy Grot and Laurens De Bock are just a few in recent years, so why is Cibicki getting namechecked here?
We understand the point Kinnear is making, but there are more gracious ways to go about it rather than picking on one player.
