Liverpool are set to face a threat from Real Madrid in their pursuit of Roma stopper.

Liverpool have set their sights on signing in form goalkeeper Roma goalkeeper Alisson this summer, [via The Times]

But their hopes of signing the Brazilian in the summer appear to be less straightforward than they had seemed.

This is because Real Madrid have entered the running, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

Alisson is rated as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe based on form this season and the interest is understandable.

Real Madrid getting involved is an ominous sign for Liverpool after their disastrous season.

Real sit fourth in La Liga, 19 points behind rivals Barcelona.

A big shake up is expected in the summer and this means spending money and buying new players.

Real will spend big and this will make Alisson even harder to sign, despite his £44 million price tag.

Calciomercato report Paris Saint-Germain are also lurking.

Liverpool should not be criticised for not moving in January as Roma made clear they were not selling mid-season, but their task this summer certainly looks tougher than it did at the start of 2017.
