West Ham United are set to be busy in the January transfer window.
West Ham have turned a corner of late under David Moyes with two wins and a draw from games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Stoke City propelling them out of the relegation places.
Moyes knows he still has plenty of work to do to secure Premier League survival, though, and has already revealed he will be looking for reinforcements in January.
The Hammers have been linked with a host of players including Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere and Bologna’s Simeone Verdi.
But the Scotsman has been dealt a blow just two weeks ahead of the window after both were effectively ruled out of moves to East London.
Boyhood Hammer Wilshere – whose current contract is up at the end of the season – has been linked with a move to West Ham for the past two years but told Sky Sports he hopes to sign a new deal with the Gunners after fighting his way back into Arsene Wenger’s first team.
“I definitely want to be here,” he told Sky Sports News.
“I’m enjoying my football and I love playing in the Premier League now and I want to help Arsenal get to where they should be.
“We just have to sort things out and I’m sure that will happen in the next couple of weeks and it will be sorted.”
Meanwhile over in Italy, Bologna’s sporting director, Riccardo Bigon, has told Sky Italia star winger Verdi will be going nowhere in January after being linked with Inter Milan, Napoli and the Hammers.
The 25-year-old has five goals and as many assists in Serie A this campaign but Bigon is insistent over Verdi’s future.
“Simone doesn’t want to move in January and the club also don’t want to lose him,” Bigon told Sky Italia.
“We are not considering the possibility of giving him away at the moment and we want to finish the league with the same squad.”
