Aston Villa have suffered a blow in their reported quest to sign Axel Tuanzebe, as the defender has signed a new contract with Manchester United.

Tuanzebe spent the second half of the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Villa and returned to Villa Park for another loan spell last season.

According to The Sun, Villa want to sign the 21-year-old in the summer transfer window.

However, the Villans have suffered a blow in their reported pursuit of the youngster, as he has put pen to paper on a new contract with United.

As announced on the Red Devils’ official website, the new deal will keep Tuanzebe at Old Trafford June 2022, with the option to extend for a further year.

The England Under-21 international is also looking forward to the upcoming season with United and is relishing the prospect of going on tour with the red Devils.

Tuanzebe’s comments clearly indicate that he is looking to play only for United next season, meaning that Villa will have to look elsewhere if they want a new defender.

Tuanzebe told United’s official website: “I have grown up at Manchester United and it has always been a big part of my life and my family’s life.

“I appreciate the trust that the club has in me and I want to repay that with my performances on the pitch.

“I know I have a lot of hard work and learning ahead of me but the experience I gained throughout last season puts me in good stead for the future ahead.

“I am determined to give everything and show everyone the player that I can be. I can’t wait for the tour to get started and to see what the upcoming season brings.”
