Arsenal’s grip on the race for Mykhaylo Mudryk’s signature seems to be slipping.
For the longest time it seemed as though the Gunners were the frontrunners in this transfer race, but now, Chelsea are getting involved.
According to The Sun, the Blues have made a last-ditch bid to hijack their rivals’ pursuit of this player, and it sounds as though their attempts at signing Mudryk may well bear fruit.
Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are set for direct discussions with Shakhtar Donetsk’s Sporting Director, Darijo Srna this week, with the Croatian set to visit Stamford Bridge on Thursday to watch Chelsea vs Manchester City.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, the reality is that you don’t hold an audience with a Sporting Director like this unless you want to sign their player.
Chelsea’s interest in Mudryk appears to be very real, and it looks as though Srna is more than ready to entertain discussions with the Blues.
Arsenal have made two bids for the player, but neither offer has quite reached the £85m asking price slapped on the winger’s head.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have shown in recent months that they have no problem paying above and beyond the odds for a promising young player, and, sadly for Arsenal, the reality is that the Blues are more likely to cough up the cash for Mudryk than the Gunners are.
If Mudryk is headed to Chelsea, Arsenal will need to go back to the drawing board in their pursuit of a new winger.
Luckily, links to the likes of Pedro Neto, Moussa Diaby and Yeremy Pino are all still bubbling away in the background, so there may well be contingency plans in Edu’s mind.
The race to sign Mudryk is heating up, and, Arsenal look to be losing ground.
