Manchester United midfielder Daley Blind has thanked Robin Van Persie for helping him to settle in at the club.
Blind arrived at Old Trafford in a deal from Ajax towards the end of the summer transfer window and he’s been an instant hit, providing a gritty and defensive element to the middle of United’s team.
He’s admitted that he was wary of how difficult it would be to settle in at United but has admitted that Van Persie has helped him considerably.
“He helped me a lot in the beginning. Robin told me what time I had to be on the field, when I could leave, the little things you have to experience if you’re somewhere new and in my shoes,” he told De Telegraaf.
Van Persie is now one of the senior players in the side and a natural player for any new United signing to turn to.
It’s encouraging that he’s shown the responsibility to take Blind under his wing and ensure that he doesn’t feel intimidated by the prospect of playing for one of the biggest clubs in England.
Blind has been superb as a holding player in United’s midfield so far but he’s going to experience further challenges down the line, which could threaten his starting place.
Michael Carrick’s return from injury will be a big boost for United and it will be interesting to see whether Louis van Gaal gets the England man straight back into the side.
Carrick has been one of the best in the Premier League over the last two seasons when it’s come to interceptions, cutting off the angles and making it difficult for the opposition to play.
Blind’s job is simple; maintain the consistency and keep Carrick out of the team where possible, proving that he’s a better option than the long serving United midfielder.
