Newcastle United supporters are taking to Twitter to react over hearing who Saudi Public Investment Fund’s first signing on Tyneside is going to be.

Saudi PIF are their partners completed a long-awaited takeover of Newcastle in October, ousting Mike Ashley in the process.

With a fortune of over £300 billion, there’s been a lot of anticipation over what the Magpies will do in the January transfer window.

And among the first things, it appears, is to sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.

The former Tottenham Hotspur right-back seems to be on Newcastle’s radar and The Northern Echo have reported that the North-East outfit are now ‘confident’ of getting a transfer done.

Here is how some United supporters reacted on social media:

Firepower

Signing Trippier is a positive move and all, but Newcastle need much more before they can realistically mount a serious challenge to remain in the Premier League.

Ridiculously, they have won just one of their first 16 Premier League outings this season – a 1-0 victory over Burnley – and it’s fairly evident where their main problem lies: attack.

Goals and goals alone will keep Newcastle in the top flight. Sure, a more-solid defence wouldn’t go amiss, and it’s actually extremely important too.

However, Eddie Howe needs additional firepower because as talented as Callum Wilson is, he is one player and if the Geordies are relying on a solitary attacker to preserve their Premier League status, well they’re as good as relegated.
