Chris Sutton and Charlie Adam reacted on Twitter as Rangers suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of St Mirren in the League Cup on Wednesday night.

27 was the magic number for Steven Gerrard’s side heading into this quarter-final encounter because that’s how long their unbeaten run has stretched.

But that didn’t bother St Mirren, who put three past a previously robust and tough to beat Rangers, with Conor McCarthy scoring an injury-time winner to add even more drama to the result.

After the match, Celtic legend and all-round wind-up merchant, Sutton, shared his thoughts on Rangers’ first defeat of the campaign, alongside former Gers man, Adam.

Whilst Rangers hold a commanding lead in the Premiership, they have just blown another just of winning their first trophy under Gerrard.

There will no doubt be frustration amongst the Ibrox faithful, but in truth, as long as the ten is stopped, they won’t care a jot in May about yesterday’s result.

But it’s during the second half of the campaign that the wheels usually come off for Rangers and, whilst there is no Dubai trip to blow off their wheels, it will be interesting to see if they can maintain the performances they have set thus far.

Nonetheless, it’s back to Premiership action for Rangers on Saturday, with Motherwell the visitors.
