Tottenham Hotspur look to have failed with reported interest in Geoffrey Kondogbia.
Tottenham were reportedly still interested in signing Geoffrey Kondogbia from Inter Milan as recently as this week as they search for a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele, reported Sky Sports.
Kondogbia was said to be one of four central midfielders Spurs were considering but they look to have missed out on the France international after Valencia confirmed they had signed him permanently on Thursday.
Kondogbia has spent the past season on loan at the Mestalla Stadium, playing 36 matches in all competitions and impressing as an all-action midfielder.
Signing a new central midfielder remains a priority for the North London club, with the future of Dembele uncertain and the Belgian linked with an exit this summer.
But could missing out on Kondogbia be a blessing in disguise if Mauricio Pochettino switches his attention to Euro 2016 winner William Carvalho.
The classy 6ft3 powerhouse is a cross between Yaya Toure and Michael Carrick and provides the balance Spurs covet in the engine room.
Carvalho, who played a key role in helping Portugal win Euro 2016, almost moved to West Ham last summer but is believed to want Champions League football.
The Sporting Lisbon star is valued at over £30million but at 26 has his best years ahead of him.
His size and style should count in his favour with many believing Carvalho would flourish in the Premier League.
