Some Newcastle fans on social media have been reacting after it was reported that they’re interested in Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
What’s the story with Leno?
According to 90Min, the Magpies are in for Leno in what could be a loan-to-buy deal.
Arsenal were linked with American goalkeeper Matt Turner on Thursday, and while football transfers aren’t an exact science, one would imagine that Turner’s arrival would free up Leno to leave.
The German was Arsenal’s number one for quite a long period before the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale. However, despite his incredible pedigree, Newcastle fans aren’t too thrilled about this rumour.
Waste of time
With all due respect to Leno, this could be a real waste of a signing from Newcastle.
If there’s one position that the Magpies don’t need reinforcements in, it’s between the sticks.
Martin Dubravka, on his day, is up there with the best goalkeepers in the league, while Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman are incredibly capable backups.
Leno arriving could lead to a bit of unrest in the backline, while if he comes in on loan, it would take up one of Newcastle’s two domestic loan spots – spots that could be very important as we head towards the end of the transfer window.
