Rangers released Ian Black after promotion to the Scottish Championship – and Blackpool have done exactly the same.

It’s fair to say Ian Black is hardly reminiscent of a golden era in Rangers’ history. Arriving at Ibrox after the Glasgow giants were demoted to the bottom tier following their liquidation in 2012, the midfielder may have helped Rangers climb back up to the Championship but he won’t be remembered with a great degree of nostalgia by supporters.
However, fans will surely feel a little sorry for their former player after he was released by Blackpool on Wednesday – just a few days after playing 30 minutes at Wembley as The Tangerines beat Exeter City in the League Two play-off final, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
Black only featured 11 times for the North West club after arriving from Shrewsbury Town in January. However, it appeared that his invaluable experience would have been enough to earn him another season at Bloomfield Road.

Nonetheless, the 32-year-old is now looking for another new start two years after being released by Rangers.
And you could forgive the midfielder for feeling a little disillusioned. After all, this is not the first time he’s been farmed out immediately after helping a club win promotion.
“It was weird to read in the papers that we were all released,” Black told the Daily Record after being shown the door at Rangers in 2015 alongside a number of fellow highly-paid team-mates.

“We’d achieved two promotions and we had a bad season last season, but we didn’t even get a thank you or a phone call to say you’re not getting your contract renewed.”
Lightning has struck twice for Black.
