The Belgian international is looking to get his career back on track with Standard Liege.
When Blackpool snapped up Belgian winger Jonathan Legear in November it looked like being a great coup for The Seasiders.
The talented attacker was once one of Belgium’s top talents during his time at Anderlecht and has two caps for his country from his time at Anderlecht.
But things unraveled in his career shortly after he made a surprise move to Terek Grozny in the Russian Premier League.
He was charged with drink-driving in Russia after he drove his car into an Esso garage during a trip back to Belgium and had suffered with injuries and off field matters at the club.
A brief stint with KV Mechelen followed before Blackpool signed him in November. But after four months and zero appearances he was released by the club in January – one of the more shocking transfers of the Championship season, even by Blackpool’s standards this term.
Now he has returned to his hometown. Former Blackpool boss Jose Riga signed him for Standard Liege recently and last night he made his debut for the team, in a play-off game with Kortrijk.
He replaced Yuji Ono in the 55th minute of the game, and went on to score in the 80th minute. It was his first goal since November 2012 and his first appearance since April last year.
Liege lost the game 3-1, but Legear will hope his performance can be the kick-start his flagging career needs.
