The Blackburn Rovers man would be an excellent addition to the Sheffield Wednesday squad this summer.
Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal will be looking to make some sound additions to his squad between now and the start of the new Championship campaign in two weeks time, in an attempt to build a group of players capable of going one step further than last season.
One of the Portuguese’s primary targets is Blackburn utility man Charlie Mulgrew, with the Sun reporting via their print edition, page 59, that Wednesday are lining up a £1 million bid for the 31-year-old.

And the former Celtic man could make all the difference to the Owls’ hopes of earning promotion next season, if he does in fact end up moving to Hillsborough.
The left-footed Blackburn star is equally as comfortable when playing in both the centre-back or deep-lying midfield positions, and his wealth of experience in playing at the very highest level could prove to be crucial to the south Yorkshire outfit this term.
Mulgrew is tenacious in the tackle, but goes about his business in a wonderfully graceful manner. He has exceptional vision, and possesses the ability to dictate the tempo of the game with his cool and composed nature, and his superb array of passing.
With Rovers suffering relegation last term, the Scotland international will surely leave Ewood Park this summer, and if Carvalhal manages to bring him to Hillsborough, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for Wednesday.
