HITC Sport understands Blackburn are to sign former Brighton defender.

Blackburn Rovers are ready to hand free agent Gordon Greer a deal after he impressed on trial, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Greer has been training with Blackburn during pre-season after being released by Brighton & Hove Albion at the end of last season.
The 35-year-old had spent the last six years at Brighton, making over 230 appearances for the south-coast club and the defender is keen to fix himself with a new club.

The Scotland international has impressed in pre-season featuring in a number of Blackburn’s friendlies and new Rovers boss Owen Coyle is ready to hand him a deal to return to Ewood Park.

Greer joined Blackburn from Clyde in 2001, but made just appearance for the club before returning to Scotland with Kilmarnock in 2003.
Coyle is in the market for defensive reinforcements after losing Grant Hanley to Newcastle last month and releasing Matt Kilgallon earlier in the summer.

Coyle believes Greer’s experience and knowhow of the Championship will prove invaluable to his squad and he hopes to secure his signing before the start of the new Championship season this weekend.
