Blackburn Rovers striker and Chile international Ben Brereton Diaz could get a World Cup lifeline if Ecuador get kicked out of the competition by FIFA.

FIFA’s appeals commission is due to rule on its investigation on Thursday, September 15, according to the Daily Mail.
Chile hope to replace Ecuador at the World Cup if their South American rival is excluded. If the appeals commission upholds the complaint, FIFA is likely to grant La Roja two 3-0 wins that would move Chile up from seventh in the South American qualifying standings to fourth – La Tri’s position.
Ben Brereton Diaz could get World Cup lifeline
Despite failing to secure a summer move away from Ewood Park, playing at the World Cup would give Brereton Diaz the perfect platform to showcase his goalscoring prowess on the biggest stage in football.
The 23-year-old has four goals for Chile from 14 caps.
With his contract set to expire at Blackburn in June, the Championship side will have to cash in on their prized asset in the January transfer window if they wish to prevent losing him on a free transfer next summer.
If Chile did replace Ecuador at the World Cup then Brereton Diaz could line-up for Chile in the tournament’s opening game against hosts Qatar.

African Cup of Nations winners Senegal and European giants Netherlands complete Group A.
Having scored 22 Championship goals last season, Blackburn’s number 22 has netted four goals from eight league games so far this season.
Playing and shining in his maiden World Cup could be the perfect opportunity for Brereton Diaz to make himself one of the most sought after players in the January transfer window.
But his and Chile’s fate rests with FIFA’s decision.
