Harrison Reed was on loan at Blackburn Rovers from Southampton this season.
Reed has returned to his parent club Southampton from his loan spell at Blackburn due to injury and will not come back to Rovers this season.
The 24-year-old midfielder played well for Rovers this campaign and made himself very popular among the Ewood Park faithful.
According to WhoScored, the former England Under-20 international made 28 starts and five substitute appearances in the Championship for Blackburn this season, scoring three goals and providing five assists in the process.
Blackburn manager Mowbray has suggested that the midfielder – who earns £12,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – wants to see how things go in pre-season with Southampton before making a decision.
Mowbray told The Lancashire Telegraph about Reed: “He’s got a new manager that he hasn’t worked with yet who seems to be giving youngsters an opportunity. Josh Sims has broken in to the team, a very similar age, stature and type of footballer to Harrison.
“Why wouldn’t you at a Premier League club want to go through pre-season and see whether the new manager likes you, what you bring to the game? We can all assess on the back of that.”
The Blackburn boss added: “There’s some financial implications around that. He’s a Premier League footballer on a Premier League salary, and their expectation of him as a Premier League player is what they would command, whatever that might be.
“I’m relaxed, Harrison seems relaxed. He just wants to go away, get fit, enjoy his summer, start pre-season with Southampton and see where it takes him.”
Linked with Norwich City
Reed has been linked with a move to Norwich City, with The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 59, April 28, 2019) reporting of the Canaries’ interest in the Southampton midfield.
Norwich will play in the Premier League next season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship.
