Blackburn’s Corry Evans in action with QPR’s Idriss Sylla
Speaking to the club’s official website, Blackburn Rovers midfielder Corry Evans has said their plan is to frustrate Newcastle United this weekend.
Owen Coyle’s side travels to St James Park on Saturday afternoon looking to build upon last week’s win over Brentford.
They face a difficult task to do so in the North East, though, with the Magpies having won their last nine games in a row and unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions.
Rovers will need a strong game plan in mind if they are to come away with anything and Evans says the aim is to frustrate the home crowd and players.
“Newcastle are very strong and they’ve got a huge support behind them,” he told the club’s official website.
“I’m sure they’ll be very vocal towards their team to try and win the match, and we’ve got to quiet the crowd and try to frustrate them.”
“Hopefully if we can stick to our game plan and frustrate the Newcastle players and the team, we can manage to nick a goal or go ahead in the game and get the three points.”
Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle celebrates scoring their first goal
If there is anyone that Blackburn should be looking to frustrate in this game, it is striker Dwight Gayle.
The forward has 13 goals in the league so far, a tally that puts him three head of Brighton’s Glenn Murray at the top of the division’s goalscoring charts.
At this moment in time he is the real dangerman in this Newcastle team and keeping him quiet would go a long way to helping Blackburn pick up as many points as possible.
