Blackburn Rovers have lost seven of their last 11 Championship games.
Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray says each of his players have had their opportunity to impress in the Championship as he now plans on improving the starting XI this summer, Lancashire Telegraph report.
“That’s the challenge for the next window, to improve the starting XI that has been pretty similar for a year or so now,” Mowbray explained.
I feel as if everyone will have had their opportunity in this league, everyone will have had a chance, and I’ll have a clear picture of what’s needed to improve us and make us stronger next year.”
Mowbray’s comments have come at the end of a disappointing run of form. Rovers have lost their last four Championship games in succession, and seven of their last 11.
The Blackburn boss told the Lancashire Telegraph in January he was keen to strengthen then – adding that he was very happy with his group of players and the idea was to provide further competition to the squad.
But his comments now appear to suggest a change in tact ahead of the summer. Now, to push the Lancashire club forward, Mowbray is seeking to buy players who will go directly into the first-team.
It’s a contrast to how Blackburn have operated over the past nine months. Players such as Harry Chapman, Ben Brereton, Jacob Davenport, Joe Rothwell and Adam Armstrong all arrived as young players with potential.
Now, it seems Mowbray could be looking at either experience or a higher level of quality signing. His thought-process may have been decided by Blackburn’s fall from a potential playoff chase.
Following seven defeats in 11, Rovers find themselves in 14th spot in the Championship table – their lowest position for over three months as they look to bounce back at Birmingham City this weekend.
