The Everton boss has stated that he one day hopes to manage his nation’s top job.
Ronald Koeman has told Fox Sports that he hopes to become the manager of the Netherlands at some point in his career and described it as his ultimate ‘ambition.’
Koeman admitted being open to prospect of coaching the Dutch nation team at some point in the future if the opportunity ever arose.
The Toffees boss,largely touted as the favourite to succeed outgoing Louis Van Gaal in 2014, was overlooked for eventual the appointment Guus Hiddink, who would go onto be relieved of his duties and replaced by Danny Blind.
Since, the 53-year-old’s stock has risen with successful spells in charge of Premier League club’s Southampton who he left to take charge of current side Everton at the beginning of the season.
Despite, a recent move to Goodison Park and the signing of a three-year contract Koeman still has aspirations of coaching the Netherlands one day.
He said: “Coaching Netherlands remains one of my ambitions.
“But I think every coach would like that. If I get the chance to coach Netherlands, I would like to take that chance.
“I was keen to take the job in 2014 after my time with Feyenoord and I felt the time was right. They went for Hiddink instead and will have had their reasons for it. Time has shown that was not the best choice.
He added: “But I do not hold a grudge against anyone over it. I would not turn down the job because of what happened in 2014. This is all in the past now.
