Albrighton explains Leicester players had a meeting to assess form

The Foxes players had a meeting to address their performances after three games without a league win.

Leicester winger Marc Albrighton revealed to the Leicester Mercury that the team had candid discussions in the aftermath of their defeat to Chelsea.

And it was evident that the talks sparked something in the side as they emphatically defeated Crystal Palace 3-1.

In a clear-the-air chat it was agreed all round that the players had been underperforming and that they had to all pull their socks up.

After a run of three games in a row without a win the players and manager all came together to look at the situation at hand and looked to provide solutions to the problem.

“The manager always says it is not important the winning of the game, but he wants to see fight and endeavour and that is something we have lacked in previous weeks in the league,” said Albrighton

“It was brought up [in the meeting] after the game on Saturday against Chelsea. I think it was plain to see that we were not fighting, and we weren’t getting in their faces.

He added: “We probably showed them too much respect. It is something you can’t do when you go to those sort of places.

“This [meeting] was after the game on Saturday. He [Claudio Ranieri] just said we needed to get back to what we were doing last season. That fighting, that spirit – it won us a league title, so why change it? We needed to get back to that.

The team spirit and comaraderie between the Leicester squad last campaign was much lauded and is definitively one preseason for their successes last term.

This campaign however the Foxes have struggled for form in the league and have regularly been undone by opponents.

After the side’s worrying 3-0 defeat to Chelsea away from home, it was the leaders in the squad that organised a team meeting which is not uncommon.

The 26-year-old also reflected on how Leicester were doing in the Champions League.

“Our form in the Champions League has been superb.

“We have kept clean sheets, scored goals, and we have been finding different ways to beat teams.”
