Sunderland manager David Moyes has been charged by the FA with misconduct after being sent to the stands in the 90th minute of the fourth-round EFL Cup tie at Southampton on Wednesday.
Moyes was shown a red card in the final moments of a 1-0 defeat on Wednesday after protesting referee Chris Kavanagh’s decision not to award his side a penalty, his outburst aimed at James Adcock were enough to see him dismissed.
The Football Association said it is alleged “Moyes used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official”.

The whole situation brings a new low to Sunderland’s desperate fight against relegation.
Moyes, who took over from Sam Alladyce was appointed Black Cats boss in July and has managed only two points from nine league games.
The former Everton manager has until 6pm on Tuesday to respond to any charges brought against him.
The Scotsman’s is infamous for his encounters with officials down the years and former Premier League referee Howard Webb named Moyes as the hardest manager to deal with.

‘They can all have their moments, but I think the one that gave me the most stick…who I felt held no love for the refereeing profession, was David Moyes,’ he told the Daily Mirror.
‘He’d be quick to criticise me, not necessarily from the technical area.”
He added: ‘But I would say in the Premier League David Moyes was the one who was critical of my decisions more than most.’
