Newcastle United have been linked with Hoffenheim striker Joelinton.

The January transfer window may only just have passed, but silly season continues ahead of the summer window.

Newcastle United shattered their transfer record to sign playmaker Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United, as well as adding left back Antonio Barreca on loan from Monaco.

Almiron made a stunning impact against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, just as a bizarre Newcastle transfer rumour was emerging in Germany.

Sport1 report that Hoffenheim striker Joelinton will be signing for Newcastle this summer, with a huge €60million (£52million) fee involved.

It’s stated that negotiations have been ongoing for weeks, but a deal should be agreed within days for the striker to complete a summer move to St James’ Park.

Now, unless somebody has stolen Mike Ashley’s bank account details or he’s putting his money elsewhere after failing to buy Patisserie Valerie, this one is pretty bizarre.

The Brazilian has impressed this season, hitting 10 goals and six assists in 28 appearances, and he would be an asset to Newcastle thanks to his power, speed and impressive technical ability.

As much as he would be almost like a younger Salomon Rondon, it’s completely unfathomable for Newcastle to spend so much money, more than twice their transfer record that they only set a few weeks ago, so don’t expect to see the 22-year-old striker on Tyneside any time soon.
