Everton have been linked with a bizarre move for Antonio Conte.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is seen during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Chelsea at St. James Park on May 13, 2018 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

According to Calciomercato, Everton made an approach to manager Antonio Conte last month about taking the reins at Goodison Park.

Conte has been out of work since leaving Chelsea at the end of last season, despite the fact that he won the Premier League title with the Blues in 2017.

The Italian is likely to be in demand soon after taking a year out of the game, and Calciomercato bizarrely claim that he rejected a move to Everton last month.

As much as Conte would be an ambitious appointment for Everton, we’re simply not buying this one, given that Marco Silva has just hit a decent run of form.

Yes, Silva came under huge pressure in early 2019, but he has made it through that rough patch. Everton have lost just two of their last nine Premier League games, keeping seven clean sheets in that run.

Silva appears to have sorted out Everton’s defensive woes and is enjoying a superb end to the season, which should have put an end to any rumours about his future.

These claims about Conte have strangely appeared though, despite Everton seemingly looking at a long-term project with Silva and director of football Marcel Brands.

Few Everton fans would turn their nose up at Conte if the Toffees were looking for a manager, but given that they already have a boss faring well at the moment, this one seems far-fetched at best.
