Alan Shearer hit out at the ‘bizarre’ way Everton are being run after Rafa Benitez was sacked on Sunday, as he told Premier League Productions (16/01/22 at 4:25 pm).

Given Everton’s recent run of form, Shearer made it clear that ‘you can’t argue’ with such a call given how ruthless management is in the footballing world today.

But this is yet another manager, owner Farhad Moshiri, has handed a p45 to, as he continues to spend, yet show a lack of clarity and forward-thinking ideas at the club.

Whether it’s the countless number of managers, millions and millions spent or big-money players underperforming.

The Toffees are only heading one way and they aren’t showing signs that they will get out of their current mess.

Shearer didn’t hold back when talking about the goings-on at Goodison Park and some of the calls that are being made.

“You can’t argue with that,” said Shearer. “If you go into management, then you know you can’t be on a run of form like Everton have had.

“No matter how good you have been. No matter how experienced you are. You are going to lose your job. But that doesn’t solve all the problems at Everton.

“When you look at what has happened over the previous six years and now they are looking for their seventh manager in six years? Over half a billion pounds has been spent. That tells you the manager is an issue, but not all of the issues.

“They spend another £30 or 40 odd million in the last two weeks. They let one of their best players go during the past week, I presume because the manager didn’t want and get on with him.

“It’s just bizarre and it sums up the way Everton are being run, at this moment in time.”

Even on a good day, the last thing an owner should do is appoint a manager from your rivals or one that used to represent them, but that’s exactly what Moshiri did.

The Iranian-born businessman may have spent millions and millions during his time at Everton, but he has probably played the biggest part in the club being in this mess.

They are in a deeper mess from the summer and the man tasked with them getting out of it? The man who put them in it.

All in all, it’s proof that money can mean absolute jack in today’s game if it isn’t invested and used wisely.
