It seems only a matter of time before Jodi Jones steps up a few levels – but he won’t be moving to Leeds United any time soon.
Leeds United picked possibly the worst time to check in on the progress of Coventry City’s prized asset Jodi Jones.
According to the Coventry Telegraph, Leeds were among 15 clubs who sent scouts to watch The Sky Blues’ League Two clash with Stevenage in midweek with Jones, a 20-year-old wideman blessed with unbelievable skill, seemingly the object of their affections.
But it seems that the former Dagenham and Redbridge starlet won’t be getting his big break any time soon. Jones went down clutching his knee midway through the second half and Coventry’s worst fears were confirmed on Thursday when the BBC reported that he will be out for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.
“He is a talented boy who is a growing influence and is great to work with,” manager Mark Robins told the BBC. “It means the end of his season. It’s a setback for him in his young career.”
But while Jones’ chances of a big move to Leeds United look over for the time being, The Whites will surely just put their interest on the back burner. Because, when the youngster returns to action, he is once again likely to be at the centre of plenty of attention once again.
Jones, who has started all of Coventry’s league games this season and scored five goals, is one of the most exciting young talents in the Football League. And while a long-term injury will curtail his progress for now, it seems only a matter of time before he is handed a chance to step up.
