Erik ten Hag honestly stated that Ajax’s 1-0 defeat to Liverpool was ‘bitter’ and the ‘luckier’ team won on the night, as quoted by TuttoMercatoWeb.

As the away side, when you leave Anfield with the opposition goalkeeper producing a Man of the Match display then you know you have done something right, but equally wrong.

On one hand, Ajax made life tough for the Premier League champions, but Liverpool proudly wear that crown for a reason because they are masters at picking up the win when they don’t play well.

They did exactly that in the Champions League last night, and in a brutally honest interview, Ten Hag thinks his side could have done more and he feels that both sides were balancing one another out.

“The team [that] won, it was luckier,” said Ten Hag. “There is a defeat. 1-0 and that’s a shame. I thought it wasn’t fair. We deserved a draw.

“I think tonight we saw two teams that balanced each other and in the end the luckiest won. The result is bitter because more could have been done.

“We could have had a better position. We know what to do to get through the round.”

Caoimhin Kelleher will remember this game for the rest of his life because this seems a defining moment for a player who was seemingly third choice on Tuesday morning.

Many felt that Adrian was going to be the one who would cover the injured Alisson Becker last night, but Jurgen Klopp sprung a surprise and played his academy product.

Well, it’s a decision that has paid off and the German will be waking up in the morning knowing that he is in safe hands for Liverpool’s weekend clash against Wolves if Alisson is unable to make it.
