West Ham United assistant manager Billy McKinlay has been full of praise for Thilo Kehrer, after the Hammers signed the defender from Paris Saint-Germain on a four-year contract.

Billy McKinlay full of praise for new West Ham signing Thilo Kehrer from PSG

Billy McKinlay has been full of praise for Thilo Kehrer, after West Ham United finalised the signing of the centre-half from the Paris Saint-Germain, via quotes by football.london. The Irons have paid Les Parisiens £10m, plus add-ons, to bring the 25-year-old to east London.

David Moyes struck a deal for the German to bolster his injury-hit backline after a pointless start to the Premier League term. The Scot has had to field Ben Johnson at centre-half with Kurt Zouma, as Nayef Aguerd, Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson overcome their injuries.

Paris Saint-Germain agreed to sell Kehrer to West Ham as the 20-cap international entered the last year of his contract at the Parc des Princes in July. He has now put pen to paper on an initial four-year deal at the London Stadium, with the option for an additional two years.

Kehrer also prioritised a transfer to the Irons against interest from La Liga outfit Sevilla, per Sky Sports. He leaves PSG after four years at the Ligue 1 giants, which returned 128 games across all competitions. But the German only started 20 of his 34 games during last season.

Mauricio Pochettino also favoured Kehrer at right-back during his final campaign in charge of Paris Saint-Germain. While Christophe Galtier omitted the former Stuttgart and Schalke prospect from his matchday squad list, as PSG started his tenure in charge with three wins.

Paris Saint-Germain transfer will now offer David Moyes a ‘bit of everything’

McKinlay believes Kehrer will now give Moyes great defensively versatility after signing for West Ham from Paris Saint-Germain. The Irons assistant coach also appreciates that the 6 ft 1 defender comes with knowledge of competing for titles and in the Champions League.

“He’s got good experience, he’s versatile and we are very much looking forward to working with him,” McKinlay said. “I think [he will offer West Ham] a bit of everything.

“I think he’s played primarily at full-back for the national team, but centre-back for PSG. We feel he will be able to add to us in a number of areas.”
