Gabby Agbonlahor told talkSPORT (02/12/20 at 8:15 am) that he has been impressed with Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones and predicted that he will have a ‘great career’.
The former Aston Villa striker also added how he likes the ‘arrogance’ from the Liverpool academy product and how he’s someone who isn’t fussed at the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane ‘screaming’ at him if he doesn’t pass them the ball.
Jones scored his first Champions League goal on Tuesday night when he combined with Neco Williams to score the only goal of the game against Ajax.
Agbonlahor was a teenager himself when he made his debut for Aston Villa and he shared how he has been impressed by Liverpool’s very own rising star.
“I rate him highly,” said Agbonlahor. “I think he’s got that swag about him where he looks like he can come into the game.
“He’ll take shots from areas and not be too fussed that Salah is screaming at him for not passing. Mane’s screaming at him for not passing.
“I think at a big club like Liverpool you need that bit of arrogance and I feel he’s going to have a great career there.”
During these coming weeks and months, Jones will want to take a leaf out of Diogo Jota’s book and make himself undroppable by his manager.
Scoring goals for fun like the Liverpool summer signing is doing does help, but if Jones can maintain his performances then he will drive up that midfield pecking order at Anfield.
Plus, he will continue to earn those extra starts in the coming weeks because of his performances and the injury problems on Merseyside and, at this moment in time, he’s taking it with both hands.
