Bookmakers have listed Birmingham City as genuine contenders to sign the Brentford man after the Blues seemingly dropped a hint on social media.
The activity of Birmingham City’s Twitter account has seemingly inspired a drop in the odds that bookmaker BetVictor are offering on the Blues landing one of the Championship’s most highly sought after stars.
BetVictor has listed the Midlands side as 5/1 third favourites to sign Brentford playmaker Alan Judge before the end of the January transfer window, but did Birmingham’s own social media account fuel the speculation in the first place?
Brentford’s Alan Judge and Burnley’s Joey Barton in action
The Birmingham Mail reports that the Twitter account for the club followed the one-time Republic of Ireland international, though it appears that they have since unfollowed the 28-year-old.
Nevertheless, that has seemingly prompted the bookmaker to take action as they now feel that Birmingham are right in contention to sign the attacking midfielder, with only Newcastle (2/1) and Aston Villa (3/1) deemed to have a greater chance of bagging his signature.
Birmingham City manager Gianfranco Zola
While it would have previously seemed difficult to imagine the Blues competing with those two clubs in the transfer market, a report from the Birmingham Mail last month suggested that Gianfranco Zola could have around £12 million to work with during this window.
And given that Judge is entering the final six months of his contract at Griffin Park (via Get West London), it appears that they should have more than enough money to potentially make a move happen.
