Newcastle United and Derby County were unsuccessful in their alleged approaches for the Birmingham City goalkeeper.
Birmingham City goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has claimed he received offers from Newcastle United and Derby County during the January transfer window.
Kuszczak made 10 appearances for Blues last season, but lost his place to David Stockdale ahead of the Christmas period.
According to the Pole, however, Birmingham refused to sanction his exit when Newcastle and Derby came calling.
Although, his circumstances look to have changed since then.
“In the winter transfer window I had a loan offer Newcastle, and Derby also approached me,” he told the Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy. “However, Birmingham, said that I should stay at the club. My contract is still valid for a year, but the situation has changed a little, because after the season I received a green light to be transferred.
“I am waiting for a signal from the people who represent me. Managers already know that a transfer option has appeared. I am calm, if there are no good offers I will wait for a year, then I will be a free agent.”
Unlike Derby – whose regular goalkeeper, Scott Carson, was among their better performers last term – Newcastle did manage to strengthen between the sticks in January, landing Martin Dubravka on loan.
And the Slovakian has since signed a permanent, four-year deal at St James’ Park.
Kuszczak’s former manager, Gary Rowett, was in charge of Derby at the time of their alleged approach, but has since moved to Stoke City.
36-year-old Kuszczak played for Manchester United at the height of his career.
