David Cotterill has commented on the boos he received from Birmingham City supporters upon his return to the first team against Preston North End, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.

Cotterill has been at St. Andrew’s for over two years now, and in that time has tried his best to earn the respect of the Birmingham fans.

Whilst he may have achieved that, his recent performance against Preston saw him receive some boos from the Blues faithful.

As reported by Birmingham Mail, Cotterill has spoken about the heckles from the supporters.

He said: “There were a few jeers from the crowd a few times, on my back a little bit – but that happens. You just have to fight back and show why you are in the side.

“Of course you are aware of it, most players are aware of that. It happens, everyone is voicing their opinion – which is fine.

“The only thing I don’t like is, you are obviously there to be shot at on social media where everyone can voice their opinions – but I just don’t like it when my children are on that picture and they say it on the picture of my children. It happens.”

Social media has proved to be both a blessing and a curse for professional footballers over the last few years, with fans having more access than ever before to praise, or perhaps more often slate, players.

Cotterill has insisted that he will be working his socks off in order to secure a place in the first team in light of these recent events.

Birmingham will have to re-focus their attention as they attempt to get their promotion push back on track. The next challenge for the Midlands side is a clash against Blackburn Rovers at St. Andrew’s this weekend.
