Birmingham City midfielder David Davis has become an integral part of the Blues starting XI this term.
Blues midfielder David Davis has shared how he played through the pain barrier during his club’s pre-season preparations after sustaining an ankle injury, due to his fear of losing his opportunity to be a regular first-team starter for Gary Rowett’s men, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
Davis has gone on to play more minutes than any other Birmingham central midfielder this term, and has played an integral role in their respectable start to the 2016/17 Championship campaign.

The 25-year-old spoke to reporters, and explained how things may have been so different, had he given in to the ankle knock he picked up in Marbella during pre-season, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail:
“I was concerned about the way it might pan out because I had worked so hard in the summer to get up to a certain level of fitness to then improve on. When I felt that pain it was similar to when I tore my ankle ligament before. It settled down but even after a day or two it still hurt me – but I was determined to get back out there, not lose any ground in what the lads were working on and making sure I was involved in that. I had to put the pain barrier to one side and just get on with it.”

Davis moved to St Andrews from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2014, and is now just two outings short of reaching the 100 appearance landmark for his club.
With Birmingham currently embroiled in a battle to force their way inside the Championship’s top-six, they will need him to be at his very best if they are to have any chance of gaining promotion to the Premier League this season.
