Leeds and Birmingham are both keen on Aden Flint.

Birmingham City and Leeds United are both battling it out to sign Bristol City centre-back Aden Flint, with The Mirror reporting both teams have enquired.

Flint’s future at Bristol City is in doubt with the Robins snapping up centre-back Nathan Baker from Aston Villa.

Birmingham appear to be hedging their options, and are chasing Newcastle defender Grant Hanley.

The Chronicle report Birmingham are mulling over a move for the Scotland international, who is not part of Rafa Benitez’s first team plans.

Birmingham stepping aside from the race for Flint would be a boost for Leeds United’s chances, allowing them a clearer run at the defender.

Leeds have a pressing need to sign another centre-back, with only loanee Matthew Pennington and Liam Cooper – last season’s third choice- available for the season opener.

Pontus Jansson is serving a suspension, and potentially he and Flint would form one of the Championship’s best defensive partnerships if the Bristol City man signs.

The Bristol Post reported this week that Flint is expected to leave Bristol City before the season kicks off.
