Birmingham City put up a decent fight but remain in the relegation zone in the Championship.

Birmingham fans may have seen their side put in a much improved performance when they hosted Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, but unfortunately for the Blues supporters, the result was much of the same for the Championship strugglers in Garry Monk’s first game in charge.

Birmingham had lost their previous five in the build-up to Steve Cotterill’s departure, so Monk’s appointment would have given the club a huge lift that could prove priceless as the season reaches its conclusion.

It was a much more positive performance from the home side against Monk’s old club, but Patrick Bamford’s close-range goal six minutes before the break ensured that Tony Pulis’ team took the three points that lifts them into the play-off places.

While some players impressed the fans, there were others who were criticised on social media after the game – and one of those who came in for slack was Che Adams.

The 21-year-old was handed a rare start up front by Monk, but struggled to get into the game as Birmingham offered little going forward. And some Blues fans even felt that Adams’ problems came about because he was almost disinterested in the contest.

Adams was one of the most highly-rated players in the Birmingham squad earlier in the campaign, but his confidence appears to be low and the fans now feel that he may have been over-hyped previously based on his latest display.
