Birmingham City were looking for a new manager following Gianfranco Zola’s resignation, but have quickly found their man.
Former Birmingham manager Gianfranco Zola
Birmingham City fans have been reacting on Twitter to the news that Gianfranco Zola has resigned from his job as Blues boss, and has been swiftly replaced by Harry Redknapp as confirmed on the club’s official website.
Zola resigned soon after Birmingham lost at home to fellow strugglers Burton Albion on Monday. The defeat has left the Midlands outfit just three points above the relegation zone with only three games left.
Despite the Italian’s incredible talent during his playing days, he was always facing an uphill battle trying to win the supporters over having been given the job after Gary Rowett’s controversial sacking back in December when the Blues were only outside the Championship’s top six on goal difference.
And with just two wins coming during his tenure, it seemed clear to everyone – including Zola, as it turns out – that the former Chelsea magician would not be able to work his magic in the St Andrew’s dugout.
Harry Redknapp
Despite Zola being the one to resign, the Blues have taken little time to confirm on their official website that Redknapp is the man who has been tasked with keeping the club in the division.
It is fair to say that the reaction to the news has predominantly been overwhelmingly positive with only a couple of negative views about the appointment. Despite Redknapp not managing in England since 2015, Blues fans seem to generally be optimistic given his famed man-management skills and experience, and the fact that he is not Zola.
Here is the best of the reaction…
