Birmingham fans have slammed Carl Jenkinson after watching his performance in their derby defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday which has left Steve Cotterill’s men just two points above the bottom three in the Championship.

Jenkinson’s time at St Andrew’s has been pretty miserable. After joining on loan from Arsenal in the summer, the 25-year-old dislocated his shoulder on his debut for the Blues and he went into the clash with the Villans having not played in the league since then.

There was even talk of his loan deal coming to an end in January, with the Daily Mail reporting last month that the Gunners were considering bringing the full-back back to the Emirates for the rest of the campaign after his disappointing first few months in the Midlands.

And Birmingham fans may now be wishing that he had headed back to Arsenal after his latest performance.

The defender endured a terrible afternoon as Villa secured the bragging rights by bagging a 2-0 win at Villa Park, and it was Jenkinson’s slack defending that allowed Albert Adomah to break the deadlock.

The winger was able to get a free run after losing the defender with ease, and he took advantage of the opening by smashing the ball into the back of the net to send the home crowd into a frenzy.

After the game, the Blues fans were not pleased with the former Charlton Athletic trainee, with some suggesting that Cotterill should not use the summer signing again if he can avoid it. And their assessments may perhaps alarm the Arsenal fans who may be wondering what the future may hold for the full-back beyond this season.
