Birmingham City have beaten Leeds United and Swansea City to the loan signing of Chelsea youngster Jake Clarke-Salter for the upcoming season, as confirmed by the official Blues website.

The 21-year-old central defender, who spent last season on loan at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, has made two substitute appearances for the Premier League side.

Clarke-Salter, the England Under-21s captain, has Championship experience from a loan spell at Sunderland in 2018, and was part of the Young Lions side that won the Under-20 World Cup in 2017.

In addition, the centre-back lifted two UEFA Youth League titles and three FA Youth Cups while starring for his parent club’s academy.

“Other Championship clubs were keen on his signature, but the 21-year-old decided on joining the revamped Blues,” wrote Birmingham on their official website.

According to The Telegraph, Swansea and Leeds had shown an interest in Clarke-Salter, but Birmingham were reported to be in pole position, and as has been confirmed, they’ve got their man.
