A number of Birmingham City fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Jude Bellingham’s performance in the 3-0 away loss to Portsmouth in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

The England youth international striker, aged 16 years and 39 days, became the youngest ever Blues player when he was handed his debut at Pompey on Tuesday night, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Bellingham, part of a youthful line-up at Fratton Park including three other debutants and seven players aged 23 and under, beat the record set by Trevor Francis, who played for Birmingham at 16 years and 139 days in 1970.

Although Pep Clotet’s charges were soundly beaten in the game, there were some positives, in particular Bellingham’s composure on the ball and close control, part of a display which bodes well for the player and the club going forward.

Here is what some Birmingham fans wrote on social media about the highly rated teenager’s performance:

According to the Daily Mail, Birmingham fought off competition from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City, to sign Bellingham on a scholarship deal this summer.
