Sheffield Wednesday were linked with a move for the former Brentford defender before his move to Birmingham City, but signed Joost van Aken instead.

Few Sheffield Wednesday fans would have turned their noses up had Birmingham City’s Harlee Dean walked through the door at Hillsborough this summer.

The 24-year-old’s performance against the Owls for Brentford last season alone was enough to get many Wednesdayites – including this one – enthused about his potential arrival.

But although reports claimed Carlos Carvalhal’s side had made a bid for him in August, it was Birmingham for whom Dean signed on the penultimate day of the summer transfer window.

And Wednesday, it would appear, were happy to leave them to it, adding Heerenveen’s Joost van Aken to their side only a few hours earlier instead.

Although it’s still early days, Owls supporters have been quick to warm to their new signing. But Birmingham fans, it’s fair to say, have not…
