If West Brom sack Alan Pardew could Harry Redknapp be ideal short-term solution based on his success at Birmingham last season?
Alan Pardew has just two matches to save his job as West Bromwich Albion manager, according to the Sun, after being knocked out of the FA Cup by Southampton at the weekend.
Of course it is in the Premier League where Pardew is most judged and things don’t look good currently with his side bottom of the table and seven points from safety.
Since the 56-year-old was appointed as Tony Pulis’ successor in the dugout following the Welshman’s sacking, the Baggies have lost seven of their league matches, drawn five and won just one.
While Redknapp – who is one of the most experienced bosses in the competition’s history – would hardly be an inspired hiring for the long-term, does his work with Birmingham City last season show he could be a decent short-term solution?
With three games to go during the 2016/17 campaign and Birmingham in relegation trouble, the 70-year-old lead the Blues to two victories and safety by two points despite them not having won in the second tier of English football since February 24 prior to that.
Redknapp falls very much into the “old school” description of management and that was the same reason why many at the Hawthorns became disillusioned with Pulis and now Pardew, but just until the summer could the former West Ham United, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur coach be the right candidate?
