Birmingham City fans have been left astonished that Steve Cotterill didn’t use Jota and Che Adams far earlier against Aston Villa.

Birmingham lost 2-0 in the second city derby, and Birmingham’s defensive tactics have come in for criticism.

Other than a big chance from Sam Gallagher, the Blues were otherwise generally kept on the back foot by Villa.

And Birmingham fans feel that they would have carried more threat, if Cotterill had shown more attacking intent.

Jota and Adams are two of Birmingham’s most dangerous attacking players, so it was a surprise that both were left on the substitutes’ bench until late on.

Adams would have possessed the pace to trouble John Terry, while Jota could have used his creativity to find space in-behind Villa’s well-organised midfield.

As it was, Villa blew Birmingham away with an excellent performance in the second half.

The claret and blues have now moved up to second place in the Championship table, while Blues are looking nervously over their shoulders, as they battle against the drop.
